FOR: Russia identified as global Y2K blackspot

SYDNEY, Dec 1 AAP - Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has reportedly
identified Russia as one of the worst of the global Y2K blackspots.

The Australian Financial Review reports DFAT plans to temporarily wind back its consular
presence in Moscow by December 28 because of fears essential services will be disrupted
by the Year 2000 computer problem.

DFAT has reportedly advised Australians to delay non-essential travel to Russia and
warned Australians living there to "carefully consider" any travel plans as seats may
be limited.

The newspaper said the country's water, sewage, power, banking, finance, health, local
transport and telecommunications sectors are viewed as being at risk of Y2K disruption.
