HONG KONG'S G'FIVE TO LAUNCH 3G PHONE RANGE IN INDIA IN Q1

NEW DELHI - Hong Kong-based G'Five Mobiles today said it will launch its portfolio of 3G handsets and smartphones in the first quarter this year to strengthen its presence in India.

The company claims to currently have about 300 models in its existing portfolio in the price range of Rs 1,400-6,000 (US$30.07-$132.71).

VIETNAMESE PHONE SUBSCRIBER NUMBERS TOP 170 MLN

HANOI - The addition of 44.5 million new phone subscribers last year represented a 35 per cent rise on 2009 figures, bringing the total number of fixed and mobile phone subscribers in Vietnam to 170 million, according to a new General Statistic Office report.

The subscribers made up the lion's share of last year's increase. There were also 793,000 new fixed-line subscribers.

INDIA'S TELCO INDUSTRY TOPS M&A CHART IN APR-DEC 2010: REPORT

NEW DELHI - The Indian telecom industry topped charts in terms of mergers and acquisitions that took place in India in the April-December 2010 period, valued at US$58 billion across all sectors, an industry body study has said.

The number of mergers and acquisitions (M&As) rose to 222 in the first nine months of the current fiscal year compared to 149 in the same period last fiscal, an Assocham study said.

TAIWAN'S CHUNGHWA TELECOM TO UP WIRELESS ACCESS SPOTS TO 20,000

TAIPEI - Chunghwa Telecom Co. (TAIEX:2412), Taiwan's largest telecom service provider, will expand its wireless access spots to 20,000 by the end of this year due to the better-than-expected progress of related infrastructure construction, the company said Tuesday.

The number of Chunghwa Telecom wireless "hotspots" has so far reached 10,000, representing much faster progress than the previous forecast of 6,000, company spokesman Shih Mu-piao told reporters at a press briefing.

RIM OFFERS INDIAN INTERCEPTION SOLUTION USING CLOUD COMPUTING

NEW DELHI - With the approaching deadline to offer complete solution for monitoring of its contents by January 31, BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) has offered lawful interception in its security architecture through cloud computing from Indian operators.

Cloud computing is Internet-based service, whereby shared servers provide software and data to computers and other devices on demand.
